Evelyn Johnson Harris, 88

RIDGELY, Md. - Evelyn Johnson Harris, of Ridgely, departed this life on Friday, June 13, 2008, in the Memorial Hospital of Easton. She was 88.

She was born on Jan. 3, 1920, in Church Hill to the late Timothy and Annie Brown Johnson.

Mrs. Harris was a graduate of Centreville High School.

She earned her teaching degree from Morgan State College, Baltimore and studied graduate work at Temple College in Philadelphia.

She married her late husband Roland E. Harris in 1971. He died on Aug. 22, 1983.

Mrs. Harris was an educator for the Garnett High School in Chestertown and Douglas High School in Baltimore City. She retired in 1977.

She was a faithful member of Providence Baptist Church in Baltimore until her failing health.

Mrs. Harris leaves to mourn her loss a devoted sister, Gladys Dean of Ridgely; a brother, Nelson Johnson of Aston, Pa.; six nieces; two nephews; a goddaughter, Patricia; and a host of relatives and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W Sunset Ave., Greensboro, where friends may call two hours prior.

Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery, Church Hill, Md.
