HARRINGTON - Evelyn Jean Smith, 89, formerly of Harrington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, Jan. 16, at Silver Lake Center, Dover, where she had been a resident for eight years, and was affectionately known as "Evie." Prior to going to Silver Lake Center, Mrs. Smith lived for nearly three years at The Heritage at Milford. Mrs. Smith was born in Delaware to parents Harry and Mary Morris. She retired from the Lake Forest School District, where she had worked in the cafeteria in Harrington. She was a faithful member of the Calvary Wesleyan Church in Harrington, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for more than 20 years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her husband, William John Smith (1964); a daughter, Teresa Thompson (2002); one brother, Wilson Morris; and two sisters, Dorothy Minner and Ethel Rash. Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Deborah McCredie and husband Ian of Dover. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jason Hill (Wilmington), and Julie Hill (Harrington), Trinity Thompson, and Kati Thompson Marshall (both of Milford); as well as five great-grandchildren, and extended family. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of The Heritage and Silver Lake for the love and care provided to Evie for the past several years, and, most especially, the genuine and loving concern shown to her and her family in Evie's last days and hours. Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Price Funeral Home, 6 Dorman Street, Harrington. There will be a family visitation beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
