HARTLY - Eugene B. Thompson, Sr., "Pop" went home to be with the Lord and ultimately the love of his life, Joan – on Sunday, January 3, 2021.
Born in Dover, Del. on March 1, 1933 to Brady Thompson and Beatrice Melvin; Eugene was one of four children. When he was 36, he married Joan and together, they raised five sons. Pop will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Eugene was employed by Richardson & Robbins for 20 years and he worked for Dover Products for 30 years, before retiring. He was a member of Willow Grove Church of God. He enjoyed watching the birds, driving the Amish to different places, going to church and in his younger days – tinkering with tractors.
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Joan E. Anderson Thompson; mother, Beatrice Melvin; father, Brady Thompson; sister, Ethel Duke; and mother-in-law, Mildred Anderson Morgan.
He is survived by his sons, Eugene B. Thompson Jr. of Hartly, Leonard "Brady" Thompson (Nadine) of Lebanon, Paul McGinnis (Rita) of Brooks, Ky., David McGinnis (Joyce) of Ridgley, Md., and Charles McGinnis of Smyrna. Eugene is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; brothers, Ray Thompson of Clayton, Gilbert Thompson of Rehoboth; and a slew of loved ones who will miss him dearly.
Charles would like to extend a much-deserved, heartfelt thank you to Pops' oldest great grandson, Brandin Moody – for choosing to be Pops' caregiver throughout the last year of his life.
Remembrance Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2021 at Trader Funeral Home in Dover. Burial will be at the Sharon Hill Memorial Park Dover.
In consideration of protecting the family and friends health, public health guidelines enacted for the prevention of the spread of covid-19 virus, limitations on gatherings, physical distancing, use of hand sanitation and masks are in place.
