Ethel E. Donovan Littleton

LAUREL - Ethel E. Donovan Littleton, age 99, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 12, 2011. Born in Milford, on Aug. 19, 1911, Ethel was a daughter of the late Russell J. and Annie T. Marker Donovan. Ethel graduated from Milford High School. After high school, she attended Goldey College and graduated from there as well. She took a job in the office of the Milford Rug Mill. When it relocated to Laurel she met her husband Walter Littleton. They were married in December 1939. After their wedding Ethel became the bookkeeper for their trucking business. She was a devoted member of Christ United Methodist Church in Laurel, and was a member of the Priscilla Circle. Ethel was very devoted to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Littleton on Feb. 17, 2010. She is survived by her loving children, Walter Littleton and his wife Arlene of Laurel, Janice Whaley and her husband Ron of Laurel; grandson, Russell Whaley of Smyrna; a deceased grandson, Chris Whaley formerly of Laurel; granddaughter, Cynthia Mitchell and her husband Kyle Mitchell of Laurel; grandson and his wife, Walter Littleton, III and Phaedra Littleton of Brunswick, Ga.; great-granddaughter, Lindsay Whaley; great-grandson, Chase Whaley; great-grandson, Jacob Mitchell and fiance Ashley Hubble and Andrew Mitchell; great-grandson, Dylon Littleton; great-granddaughter, Sydney Littleton; and great-great-grandson, Kayden Mitchell. She is survived by her loving sister, Viola Chillas of Middletown, with whom they exchanged letters every week; a nephew, David Chillas and his wife Leda, also of Middletown; a cousin, Jack Donovan and wife Elizabeth, deceased, with whom they were very close; Alice Jay Smith, Jack's daughter; three nieces who were very special, Mary Ellen Carmine and husband Paul, Nancy Littleton and Carolyn Stiles and Altina Moore and husband Philand her special friend, Shirley Sommers whom she called everyday. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, May 16, 2011, at 2 p.m., with a viewing from 1 to 2 p.m., at Christ United Methodist Church 510 S. Central Ave., Laurel. Pastor Barbara Wilson will officiate. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Laurel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Mrs. Littleton's memory to: Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way Milford, DE 19963; or Christ United Methodist Church, 510 S. Central Ave., Laurel, DE 19956. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home Laurel, DE.
