Ethel Delores Tyler

DOVER - Ethel Delores Tyler, died Saturday, June 2, 2012, at Silverlake Nursing Home. Mrs. Tyler was born October 26, 1916, in Ewell, Maryland to the late Cooper W. Somers and Nora Evans Somers. She had worked in Dover for J.C. Penny and Emanuels Department Stores for several years before going to work for the State of Delaware for the Department of Natural Resources for 15 years, retiring in 1982. After her retirement from the State she went to work for Leggett's Department Store in Customer Services and gift wrapping, retiring in 1997. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover, and was on the Administrative Board. Mrs. Tyler was also a member of Wesley Methodist Church Branches, Counsel of Ministries and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed travelling and ceramic and tole painting until Macular Degeneration robbed her of her vision. Mrs. Tyler is survived by her daughter, Alene Cook of Dover; son, Ronald Tyler and his wife Josephine of Huntingtown, Md.; and grandchildren, Dawn Rene Cook (Hossein Ziglari), Donald Cook, Karen Farr (Matthew) and Patricia Zito (Eric); and four great-grandchildren, Gibson and Cooper Farr, and Andrew and Sarah Zito. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 S. State Street, Dover, DE 19901. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Division of the Visually Impaired, Attn: Fiscal Office, 1901 North DuPont Hwy, Biggs Bldg. Newcastle, DE 19720 In memory of Ethel Tyler. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at torbertfuneral.com.
