Ernest M. Adkins, 87 GEORGETOWN - Ernest M. Adkins, age 87, of Georgetown, passed away on Jan. 14, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Willards, Md., a son of the late E. Roland Adkins and Birdie Beachump Adkins. He retired after 30 years of service with the E.I. DuPont company in Seaford as a small instrument mechanic. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Air force were he was a Sergeant in the 313th Bomb Squadron. Ernest was a 60 year member of the American Legion Post #19 of Laurel, where he served in many capacities on the board. Cherished family memories include his love of bowling, woodworking and watching the Oriole's baseball games. Mr. Adkins is survived by a daughter, Sue Adkins Hart of Laurel; a brother, Sandy Adkins and wife Debbie of Salisbury; grandchildren, Laurie Adkins Bireley and husband Todd of Delmar, Bethany Adkins Larmore and husband John; great-grandchildren, Michael Bireley, Christopher Bireley and Alex Larmore; a daughter-in-law, Mary Lee Adkins; his devoted companion, Lois Adkins; his cat "Buddy"; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William Butch Adkins; and a sister, Dorothy Ann Farlow. A Funeral Service was Wednesday, Jan. 20, at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Fuenral Home, 700 West St., Laurel. The Pastor Mike Rittenhouse officiated. Interment followed in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel, where he received full military honors. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Delaware Hospice 100 Patriots Way Milford, DE 19963.
