Ernest Jacob Zimmerman, 87

DOVER - Ernest Jacob Zimmerman, passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, in Kent General Hospital BayHealth, Dover. He was 87. He was born on Aug. 1, 1921 in James Port, Long Island, to the late Jacob and Charlotte Wittington Zimmerman. Ernest was a life long farmer who moved to Delaware from Long Island, N.Y. in 1947. He was the founding member of Delaware Produce Growers, an organization which helped to establish and market Delaware potatoes. He was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life. He was preceded in death by his sons, Ernest Jr., and Charles Mark; and brothers, Jacob "Jake", and Robert. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Zimmerman, of Dover; daughter, Elizabeth Zimmerman, of Kamuela, Hawaii; sisters, Anne Dowling, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Cecilia Loucka, of Long Island, N.Y.; grandchildren, Andrew, Jordan, Rebecca, Jason, Kristol, Jonathan, and Shawn; and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Daisy, Aydin, Hannah, Ryan, and Joshua. Remembrance Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008 at Trader Funeral Home in Dover, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover. The family request that memorial contributions be given to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901; and/or Kent General Hospital BayHealth Building Fund, 640 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901.
