EARLEVILLE, Md. - Emmett Richard Kelly, of Earleville, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, in the Heartland Hospice House, Wilmington. He was 86.
He was born Feb. 24, 1922, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Vincent Kelly and Claire Meyers Kelly.
Mr. Kelly served his country in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II.
After receiving his masters degree, he went to work as a chemical engineer and retired from the New Jersey E.P.A. in 1993.
Mr. Kelly was a member of, the Cecilton Lions Club, the Lower Cecil County Senior Citizens and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8175, Elkton.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and working in his garden.
Mr. Kelly especially enjoyed volunteering his time to help others through the Lions Club and socializing with his friends in the Seniors Group.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Alma Marie Kelly in 2005; one brother, Vincent Kelly; and one sister, Lucia Anderson.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Kelly of Wilmington, Del.; one sister, Claire Hickey of Chestertown; two sisters-in-law, Katherine Hicks of New Holland, Pa. and Margaret Kelly of New York, N.Y.; one granddaughter, Caitlin Higgins of Wilmington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Catholic Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Chestertown.
A visitation will be from 9-9:45 a.m. in the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.
Interment will be held in St. Paul's Cemetery, Chestertown.
