CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Emma H. Matthews of Cambridge died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, in Methodist Manor House, Seaford, Del. She was 104.

Born on July 8, 1903, in Vienna, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Higgins and Mary Webb Higgins.

Mrs. Matthews graduated from area schools and attended St. Mary's College.

On June 15, 1926, she married Phillip B. Matthews, a prominent Cambridge native and banker.

Mr. Matthews died Nov. 4, 1976, and then there afterwards she became a resident of the Methodist Manor House.

She had been a member of Zion United Methodist Church since Nov. 19, 1950.

While her health allowed, Mrs. Matthews enjoyed playing bridge.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Edwin Higgins and Frank Higgins; and a sister, Louise Keller.

Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A brief funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, where refreshments will follow.

Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Samuel McWilliams.

Private burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Zion United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 612 Locust St., Cambridge, MD 21613; or to the Methodist Manor House Memorial Fund, 1001 Middleford Road, Seaford, DE 19973.
