Emma Elizabeth Perry, 84
CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Emma Elizabeth Perry, of Cambridge, departed this life on Monday, May 19, 2008, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. She was 84.
Mrs. Perry was born May 13, 1924, in Randleman, N.C., daughter of the late Ida Street.
She was raised by her grandparents, Matthew and Minnie Evans.
Mrs. Perry moved to Cambridge at an early age and later in life was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Robert H. Perry in 1947.
She was employed within the local factories in the Cambridge area until, along with her husband, they established their own business, Perry's Vault Co. in Cambridge.
Mrs. Perry was a faithful member of Bethel AME Church for many years until her health started to fail.
She was a member of Stewardess Board 2, Homecoming Committee, Stewardship and Finance Committee, Tribe of Levi, Emergency Board, Homecoming Queen in 2004 and served as Church Treasure for many years after the death of her husband.
Mrs. Perry was known to all as the "Queen of Pie Making." Everyone loved her sweet potato pies.
She would cheerfully make pies to give to her family and make as many pies as anyone needed.
Her favorite saying was "Whatever God Says."
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Winfred Lee Evans and Thomas Street.
Mrs. Perry leaves to mourn, her one and only son, Theodore R. Bishop Jr. (Barbara); a sister, Mrs. Ida Neal of Winston Salem, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Evans of Randleman, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, Constance Lewis of Harrisburg, Pa., Gwen Bishop of Seaford, Del., Sandra Johnson of Anaheim, Calif., Yvonne and Rosalind Johnson of Laurel, and Vicky Johnson of Cambridge, Carrars Deshields (Dilinda) of Lewes, Del., Anthony Johnson (Yolanda) of Laurel, and Hayward and Medgar Johnson of Cambridge; 26 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Friday in Bethel AME Church, 623 Pine St., Cambridge, with a viewing two hours prior to the services.
Interment will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Bethel Cemetery, Bayly Road, Cambridge.
