Elwood C. 'Tommy' Foraker, 80
NEWARK - Elwood C. "Tommy" Foraker, of Newark, died on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at his home. He was 80.
Born in Blackbird Station, on Dec. 19, 1927, Mr. Foraker proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Foraker was a carpenter by profession and had been employed with DiSabatino & Raniere Construction.
He later accepted a position as a supervisor with DiSabatino Construction, from which he retired.
A devout Christian, Mr. Foraker was a former pastor of Delaney Methodist Church in Clayton.
He was currently a member of Elkton Baptist Church and was a former member of Red Lion United Methodist Church.
For many years, Mr. Foraker raised and flew pigeons.
He also enjoyed vegetable gardening around his home and hunting rabbits and geese.
An avid baseball fan throughout his life, Mr. Foraker managed local Little League teams for several seasons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwood Foraker and Pearl George Foraker; and a brother, Randolph Foraker.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Helen Ferguson Foraker; three sons, Martin Foraker and wife Robin of Newark, Steven Foraker and wife Shelly of New Castle, and Troy Foraker and wife Corrina of Newark; three sisters, Pauline Cahall of Clayton, Delores Budd and husband Howard of Clayton, Louise Pacelt and husband Fred of Oquawka, Ill. and Irene Coleman of Hartly; two brothers, Clarence Foraker and wife Inga of Smyrna, and Ricky Foraker of Marydel; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark.
A funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2306 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805; or to Odyssey Hospice (c/o Odyssey Health Care), 1407 Foulk Road, Suite 200, Wilmington, DE 19803.
