Elsie Ford
Elsie Ford was born Elsie Louise Breeding in Washington, D.C. on July 16, 1948 to Horace Eugene Breeding and Gladys Burrell Breeding. Their marriage was brief and Elsie was raised by her father's Aunt Laura Madeline Jordan and Uncle Ellsworth Jordan. Her Great Aunt and Uncle provided a very loving and comfortable upbringing. Elsie enjoyed ballet lessons, piano lessons, educational summer vacations and visits to the family hone at Arundel on the Bay Annapolis, Md. Where she also enjoyed boating and playing in the Chesapeake Bay. Elsie received her education in the D.C. Public School System. She graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in North West Washington, D.C. At Roosevelt she met and dated Granville Lee. After Elsie graduated she married Granville Lee, her high school sweetheart, in 1966 right after graduation. There are two children from this marriage, Elsie Michelle Lee and Granville Charles Lee, Jr. (Tomara). From these children Elsie has four grandchildren. Elsie's greatest joy was her grandchildren, Brittani and Noah!
Elsie enter the Federal Government in 1974 after her children were old enough to go to school and nursery school. Elsie started as a Military Personnel Clerk with the Department of the Navy. Elsie enjoyed working for the Federal Government and showed enough initiative that she was promoted quickly and retired in 2002 as a Budget Analyst working for the Treasury Department, at the Internal Revenue Service.
In 1979 Elsie met Allen Ford, Jr., the love of her life. They were immediately inseparable. After two years together they married in 1981. Allen decided to give up his career with the U. S. Navy to stay with Elsie and become the stepfather to her children Michelle and G.C. They spent the first few years of their marriage in Prince Georges County, Md. In 2001 they moved to Anne Arundel County, Md. They enjoyed living by the Chesapeake Bay in Churchton, Md. until hurricane Isabel happened. They then decided to look for property in another area. In 2005 they built their dream home and moved to Milford, Del.
After her retirement Elsie volunteered for Meals on Wheels in Anne Arundel County, Md., Millennium Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, and South County Senior Center in Edgewater, Md. She took classes at the South County Senior Center in China Painting which she truly enjoyed. She spent the years crocheting and constructing expert series Lego sets.
Elsie and Allen shared many wonderful years together traveling and enjoying each other's company. Elsie and Allen belong to St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Milford, Del.
Elsie is survived by her husband, Allen; her children, Michelle and G.C.; her stepson, Allen III; and her grandchildren, Adrianna, Jerod, Brittani, Noah and Desmond. She is also survived by her brother, Louis Hough (Wanda); her predeceased brother, Alvin (Patricia); and a sister, Patricia Ann Roth.
Elsie will truly be missed.
The family will receive visitors at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday April 17, 2021. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John's the Apostle Catholic Church, 506 Seabury Ave. Milford on Saturday April 17, 2021 at 12 noon.
Burial is Milford Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to St. John's The Apostle Catholic Church.
