Ella Mae Hummer, 74

LAUREL - Ella Mae Hummer, of Laurel, passed away in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md., on Monday, March 24, 2008. She was 74.

She was born in Hebron, Md., a daughter of the late Albert and Alice Darby, and was formerly of Delmar.

Ella retired as a seamstress from Blind Industries in Salisbury.

She was an avid bingo player. Her family will remember her for her love of her children and grandchildren.

Ella was preceded in death by her longtime companion, John Willin; her brothers, Albert, William and Preston Darby; and her sisters, Madelyn Porter, Pauline Wheatley and Erma Moore.

She is survived by her son, Samuel Wayne Hummer and his wife Linda of Eden, Md.; her daughters, Linda Smith and her husband Gary of Laurel and Mary Shrieves of Seaford; a sister-in-law, Motsie Darby; her grandchildren, Samantha Miles, Jessica Hummer, Greg Shrieves, Amanda Brittingham, Kelly Joseph and Gary Smith; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Christ Evangelistic Church, Camp Road, Laurel, where a viewing will be two hours prior.

The Rev. Roland Tice will officiate.

Interment will follow in Hebron Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, Laurel.

Donations in Ella's memory are suggested to the American Heart Association or the Kidney Foundation.
