DOVER - Elizabeth M. Shane, of Dover, and formerly of Smyrna, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jim Council. She was 96. Elizabeth was born Sept. 26, 1915, in Townsend, to the late Rena and Clarence Unruh. Mrs. Shane was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved flowers, gardening and music. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Roy V. Shane in 2000; sons-in-law, James S. Alexander, III in 1991, and John D. Scott in 1996; granddaughter, Brenda Lynn Spencer-Lawler in 2007; and brother, Earl Joseph Unruh in 1942. Elizabeth is survived by her two sons, Earl T. Shane, and his wife Shirley and R. Kenneth Shane and his wife Ruth Ellen, all of Smyrna; five daughters, Shirley Alexander of Massey, Md., Janet Council and her husband, Jim of Dover, Joyce Spencer and her husband, Bob of Highland Village, Texas, Jean Scott of Greenwood, and Patsy Severe and her husband, Ed of Camden; 16 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be noon, Thursday, Jan. 26, at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown, where friends may visit one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in Townsend Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Citizens' Hose Company, P.O. Box 97, Smyrna, DE 19977-0097; or to Delaware Hospice, Inc, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
