Elizabeth 'Betty' Hitchens, 87 LAUREL - Elizabeth "Betty" Hitchens, age 87, of Laurel, passed away on Feb. 1, 2010, at The Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. Mrs. Hitchens is survived by her brother, James D. Mitchell of New Hampshire; a sister, Margaret Lyle White of Lewes; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Hitchens; brothers, William and Richard Mitchell; and a sister, Helen Mitchell Trifillis. A Funeral Service was held at St. Philips Episcopal Church, Laurel, Friday, Feb. 5, 2010. The Rev. Dr. Howard Backus officiated. Interment followed in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Laurel. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, Laurel.
