MARYDEL - Elizabeth "Bette" Grygo, of Marydel, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, in her residence, with her family by her side. She was 75.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Royds Sharpe.
Mrs. Grygo had lived in Cherry Hill, N.J., prior to moving to the Marydel area in 1967.
For the greater part of her life she had been a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and in 1998 she worked as a receptionist at the Forrest Avenue Animal Hospital until recently, when her illness forced her to leave.
Mrs. Grygo had been a longtime faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Marydel and was an active member of the Marydel Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
A kind and generous lady, she will be remembered for the wonderful cakes that she baked and especially for the kind and generous manner in which she treated those she encountered in life.
Mrs. Grygo will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Henry "Hank" Grygo in 2003; and her brother, George Sharpe.
She is survived by three sons, Martin and his wife Donna of Glencoe, Ala., David and his wife Cindy Grygo of Hartly, and Steven and his wife Ailene of Atlanta, Ga.; three daughters, Donna and her husband Dave Schepens, Theresa and her husband Chris Nolett, and Trish Grygo, all of Marydel; her sister, Mabel Ewing of Lansdowne, Pa.; three brothers, Thomas Sharpe, Fred Sharpe, and Donald Sharpe, all of New Jersey; nine grandchildren, Joseph Grygo, Adam Grygo, Alison Grygo, all of Glencoe, Amber Grygo of Marydel, McKenzie Ware of Hartly, Morgan Grego of Atlanta, Mike Schepens, Lynn Schepens, Kristin Nolett, all of Marydel; and one great-grandchild, Kylie Grygo of Marydel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marydel.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover.
The family suggests donations in her memory to the Marydel Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box, 400 Marydel, MD 21649; or the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
