CECILTON, Md. - Elizabeth A. Gould died April 18, 2007, in her home in Cecilton, Md. She was 84.
She was born Jan. 5, 1923, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Ringgold.
Elizabeth was educated in the Kent County Public School System. During her early years she worked at Campbell"s Soup Co. in Chestertown, Md. and Elkton Fashion in Elkton, Md. After her retirement she did domestic work.
Mum, was a person known for her fashionable hats and attire. She learned to love the Lord at an early age in Big Woods, Md. When she moved to Cecilton, she became a member at Union Bethel A.M.E. Church. In her younger years and for many years after she was a loyal usher.
Elizabeth had a quiet spirit and worked in the kitchen when needed. She was always willing to help out with whatever you asked her to do. She loved to read her Bible and make white potato pies. She was known for her floral arrangements and her famous white potato pies. When the Spirit moved her you would find her singing the songs of Zion and clapping at services.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Gould; a son, Elmer Gould Jr.; four sisters, Delia Caulk, Josephine Johnson, Gertrude Johnson; and three brothers, Samuel Ringgold, William "Pete" Ringgold and Freddy Gleaves.
She is survived by children, Cordelia Ruley of Cecilton, Md., Mary Gould of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Blanche Reed of Newark, James Gould and his wife, Marcia of Rochester, N.Y., Hester Wise and her husband, Edward of Cecilton, Md. and Raymond Gould Sr. of Upper Marlboro, Md.; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hester Sewell of Cecilton, Md., Ruth Briscoe and Naomi Blackshire, both of Worton, Md.; two brothers, the Rev. Charles Ringgold Sr. and his wife, Odessa and Raymond Ringgold and his wife, Priscilla of Wilmington; one sister-in-law, Addie Ringgold of Richmond, Va.; one brother-in-law, Archibald Johnson of Chestertown, Md.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Zion United Methodist in Cecilton, Md. Friends may call two hours prior to service.
Burial will be in NCCOL, Worton, Md.
