DOVER - Elia "Leo" Calvelli passed away peacefully on June 9, 2018 surrounded by his family.
He was born in Manhattan, N.Y. in 1934 and lived in the Bronx for many years. He and his family moved to Landing, N.J. in 1976, residing there for 24 years until retiring in 2000 to Dover.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jean; as well as his four children, Steven of Long Valley, N.J. and his wife Carolyn, Andrew of Oaks, Pa., David of Flemington, N.J. and his wife Jennifer, and Catherine Conway of Denville, N.J. and her husband John. He is additionally survived by his seven grandchildren, Michael, Allison, Lauren, Hannah, Abigail, Anthony and Daniel, who he loved and adored; and his siblings, Sam, Jerry, Elizabeth and Sarah. He was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph and Carmela; as well as his parents, Francisco and Antoinette.
Leo served in the U.S. Army Honorably during the Korean War, and was wounded three times in battle in service to his country. He was awarded three Purple Hearts and numerous medals for his valor and sacrifice. Leo then served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force having completed nine years total service to the U.S.
Leo graduated from Baruch College with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1970. He worked on Wall Street for 35 years where he held various securities and accounting roles in financial services.
Leo was known by all for his humor and love for his family and travel. He enjoyed spending time doing various projects and took great pride in his yard. He also loved to go ballroom dancing with Jean.
Services will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Interment will be at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear.
