'Winnie' Macadam REHOBOTH BEACH - Edwina Emmert "Winnie" Macadam, born Sept. 31, 1931, Beloved mother, philanthropist and daughter of Ruth Cowgill Emmert-owner of the Dinner Bell Inn in Rehoboth Beach-passed away on the 11th of May, at Lynn House in Alexandria, Va. She was with her children when she passed. She was 79 years old. "Winnie", as she was lovingly known by friends and family, attended Rehoboth Beach Elementary School and later George School in Newtown, Pa. After high school graduation, she studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in Philadelphia, where she met her husband, Richard G. Macadam. She later graduated with a BFA in Fine Arts from Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich. She and her husband moved to Michigan in 1955, where they settled for the next 30 years and raised their children. She loved being a full-time homemaker, mother and teaching art to children. In 1984, Winnie returned to her roots and retired in Rehoboth Beach, where her love of all thingsgreat and small came to life in her lovely garden, community and charitable activities. For many years, she was the Director of the Rehoboth Day Care-which was started by her mother, Ruth Cowgill Emmert. She also sat on the Parks and Shade Tree Commission, was a member of the Rehoboth Art League, active in the Southern Delaware Academy of LifelongLearning, and presented the Sunshine Circle Club's Humanitarian Award in 2006. She is survived by her brother, Lockwood Emmert; and her children, Loch Ian and Heather Dune Macadam. There will be a memorial service to be announced at a later date.
