Edwin E. Eckert passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford, Delaware where he was a resident. Edwin was born on April 8, 1933 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Phares Flory Eckert and Kathryn Mary Light. He married in 1952 to Joan Marie (Lengle) Eckert and they celebrated 69 years together.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served twenty years and achieving the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was a jet engine mechanic and was proud to have worked on many types of military aircraft, his favorite being the B47. He also served during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 and he so loved his job that he worked another twenty years in the Civil Service, retiring again in 1995.
All his life he loved model railroading and flying RC planes. He was an avid reader, a huge Disney fan and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; and his four children, David Eckert of Smyrna, Del., Susan Crosby of Panama City, Fla., Mrs. Dawn (Donald) Morin of Bradenton, Fla., Mrs. Debra (James) Baustert of Smyrna, Del.; seven grandchildren, Steven Eckert, Brittany Eckert, Jason Crosby, Jeffrey Morin, Kathryn Morin, Kelsey Hammond and Jared Hammond; as well as three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Florence Asbury of Lebanon, Pa. The family wishes to thank the Delaware Veterans Home for the wonderful care they provided.
The viewing will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Pippin Funeral Home in Wyoming, Del. Graveside services will be at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Lebanon, Pa. on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial donations be made to the Delaware Veterans Home, 100 Delaware Blvd., Milford, DE 19963.
