MILLSBORO - Edward Lee Jones, of Millsboro, passed away at his home on Monday, April 21, 2008. He was 72.
He was born in Selbyville son of the late, Ralph and Hanna (Hamblin) Jones.
Ed was a truck driver for Thoroughgood Concrete Co. in Dagsboro, retiring after 36 years of service.
Ed was a member of the National Guard from 1956 to 1961.
He was an avid Richard Petty racing fan, making a trip to North Carolina in 1999. He also attended races at Dover Downs, Georgetown and Delmar racetracks and liked to watch NASCAR races on Sunday.
He enjoyed fishing and playing horseshoes at family picnics.
Ed was preceded in death by a sister, Nina Littleton of Dagsboro; and two brothers, Charles Jones and Thomas Jones, both of Berlin, Md.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Millie (Hudson) Jones; a daughter, Gail and her husband Mike of Dagsboro; two sons, Richard and his wife Donna of Dagsboro, Dean and his wife Lesia of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Kristina Messick and her husband GG of Millsboro, Jessica Jones of Dagsboro and Travis Jones of Georgetown; a great-granddaughter Delana Messick of Millsboro; two brothers, Ronald Jones and his wife Hazel of Delmar, Lawrence Jones and his wife Wilma Lee of Bishopville, Md.; sister, Freda Littleton of Dagsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Thatcher Street, Frankford, where friends may call after 1 p.m.
Burial will be in Dagsboro Redmens Memorial Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Edward's memory to the American Cancer Society, Sussex County Unit, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21805.
