Edward L. Cox Jr., 94 FLORIDA - Edward L. Cox Jr., 94, passed away quietly just before midnight July 4th, 2010. He is remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and caring friend to all who knew him. Edward was born on June 16, 1916, in Macon, Georgia, the only child of the late Edward L. Cox, Sr. and Katherine Mary Bazemore. As a young man he apprenticed at the Central of Georgia Railroad and later became an accomplished musician and mechanical engineer educated at Georgia Institute of Technology. As an Air Force Officer he was an aircraft pilot in Europe during WWII, and served within six states of the US during his military career. Later as a private pilot of his Beechcraft Bonanza, he enjoyed retirement with frequent flights around the United States. He was a member of Peoples Congregational Church of Christ in Dover, Del., where he served as a Deacon and finance committeeman. His God, family and country were the most important things to his life. He worked hard all his life to provide for his family, support his church and serve his country. Edward was predeceased by the love of his life, Dorothy B. Cox only weeks ago and is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law; Anne and Daniel Dobbs of Vonore, Tenn., and Susan and Paul Mahla of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews from Georgia to Texas. Graveside services will be noon, Thursday, July 8th, 2010, in Riverside Cemetery, Macon, Ga., with military honors. Memorials in his honor are suggested to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32257. Arrangements by Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, Fla. Please post tributes to www.hardage-giddensrivermead.com
