Edward Dressler

SMYRNA - Edward Dressler, of Smyrna, formerly of Hopelawn, N.J., Gloucester, Mass., and Raymond, N.H., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 83. Mr. Dressler was born Aug. 12, 1928, in Perth Amboy, N.J., the son of the late Frank and Mary Dressler. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. His time in the Navy ranged from starting in the North Atlantic and ending in Guam. Edward was a twenty year veteran of Hopelawn Fire Department in New Jersey. While there, he also coached Little League Baseball, and was a Boy Scout Master. His pleasures in life were first of all church, fishing, and family. He also loved camping. Mr. Dressler worked for many years as a District Manager for Radio Shack. Upon moving to Delaware with his wife, he worked as a Security Guard for Bennett Security for many years up until his retirement. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Semanes; and his first wife, Julia. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Carol; his son, Edward F. and his wife Nancy; grandson, Brian; granddaughter, Beth Ellen; and two great-grandsons, Caden and Michael. He is also survived by three step-sons, Herbert, Frank, and Kirk Blackington, all of New Hampshire; and a step-daughter, Audrey Cosgrove of Michigan. A viewing will be offered on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St., Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear. Condolence letters may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
