Edward Caldwell, Jr.
DOVER - Edward Caldwell, Jr. went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Dover Place Assisted Living, Dover DE.
Mr. Caldwell was born January 16, 1935 in Wyoming, Del., the son of the late Edward Caldwell, Sr. and Cynthia Seamen Caldwell.
Mr. Caldwell started working at the age of 16 at Playtex, Dover, and retired January 17, 1997 after 46 years.
He married his late wife, Eleanor Leager Caldwell, in 1969 and moved to Maryland. Mr. Caldwell was a dedicated member of Eastern Shore Bible Baptist Church, Galena, MD.
Over the years he raised, trained and hunted rabbit beagles, enjoyed pleasure boating and being a member of the Kenton Ruritan Club. But his greatest pleasure was his Antique Truck Show Ministry where he showed his 1970 GMC truck and participated in parades sharing the gospel message. He would say "man recycles vehicles but only Jesus Christ can recycle lives.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Edith Neidig, Carrie Melvin and Mary Williams; and his brother, Willis "Bill" Caldwell. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tina Svites and a grandson, Jeff Bennett.
Mr. Caldwell is survived by his brothers, Daniel Caldwell (Betty), Louis Caldwell (Jean); and sister, Betty Ann McGinnis (Frank), all of Delaware.
He is also survived by stepson, Allen Bennett (Peggy), of MD and stepdaughter, Marlyn Bennett Svites (Joe, deceased) of PA. Grandchildren that survive him are: Joseph Svites, III (Susan) of Ohio, David Bennett (Annmarie) of DE, Lisa Sheldon (Joel) and Edward Svites all of PA. Great-grandchildren surviving him are Bret Svites of FL, Sara Svites of PA, Madison Sheldon of Indiana and Elizabeth Sheldon of PA. Also surviving him are many special nephews and nieces.
A visitation will be held Friday, October 15, 2021 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Eastern Shore Bible Baptist Church, 13984 Gregg Neck Road, Galena, MD 21635. Services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Sudlersville Cemetery, Sudlersville, MD. Masks are requested. Online condolences can be sent to the family at
