FREDERICA - Edna Mae Thomas, of Frederica, died peacefully Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at home. She was 80.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Milford Neck on Aug. 5, 1927, to the late Robert Claude and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Webb) Fisher.
She was a graduate of Felton High School in 1945 and a graduate of Milford School of Nursing, where she received her nursing degree in 1948.
Mrs. Thomas began working as a registered nurse at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital and was there for many years.
She then went to work for the federal government's civil service at Dover Air Force Base as a registered nurse, where she worked for over 30 years.
After retiring from the Air Force base, she worked a short period of time at Capitol Nursing Home, Dover, and then at Silver Lake Center, Dover, where she again retired in 2007.
She and her husband, Bill, owned and operated Bill's Luncheonette on Market Street in Frederica for 12 years before selling the business in 1969.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Frederica, and a member of the Frederica Historical Society.
She loved taking care of her family and enjoyed doting over her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her beloved dog, Bandit.
Mrs. Thomas enjoyed hunting for a good bargain when she could find one. She loved going to Spencer's Bazaar where she had a table for many years.
She also enjoyed flowers and always started her flower garden early.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Thomas; a great-grandson, Jeff Vanderwende in 2006; and a sister, Katherine Fisher.
She is survived by a daughter, Jo Ann Darling and her husband Alton of Bridgeville; three grandchildren, Jeff Krause of Farmington, Deanna Rolland of Newark and Bryan Krause of Milford; five great-grandchildren, Brianna Krause, Caleb Rolland, Christian Timbs, Bryan Krause Jr. and Aurora Krause; a special aunt, Jane Brown of Frederica; and three special cousins, Claire Nashold of Frederica, Suzanne Brode of Harrington and Janet Warren of Milford.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Bay Road, Frederica.
