Edna 'Mom Edna' (May) Flamer, 81
FREDERICA - Edna "Mom Edna" (May) Flamer of Frederica died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 81.
Mrs. Flamer was born March 28, 1925, in Felton, daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Young) May.
She was raised in the Frederica area and attended Delaware public schools.
Mrs. Flamer worked at Barker's Landing Tomato Factory in Magnolia, and Drapers Factory, Frederica. She was last employed by Wesley College, Dover. She and her husband operated a place of social entertainment in Harrington.
She was an unassuming person, but not shy. She liked to dance and have fun. She was a very good cook and favorite sister and aunt among her siblings and their families.
Her earthly journey was not an easy road to travel.
Mrs. Flamer knew it was by the grace of God that she survived for the Savior. A commendable attribute to her character was the fact that she overcame past adversities in her life that enabled her to share many precious memories with her two children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her siblings, Elnora Meadows, Margaret Greenfield, Clarence May, Anna May, Benjamin Gray and Helen McCalister; a grandson, Rodger Hovington; and a granddaughter, Tanya Neal.
She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, William and Matilda Hovington of Frederica; a daughter and a son-in-law, Elnora and Henry Knowles of Harrington; five granddaughters, Treina Carrion, Christine Perry, Concella Perry, Cynthia Perry and Paula Hovington; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother and a sister-in-law, Clifford and Josephine May; a sister-in-law, Doris May; a loving niece and a nephew-in-law, Sarah and Elvin Spence; a loyal and devoted friend who was like a daughter, Annette Scarborough; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier.
