E. Edward Houghton, 67 CHESTERTOWN, Md. - E. Edward Houghton, of Chestertown, died Sunday, August 31, 2008 in his home. He was 67. He was born in Somerville, N.J., on Oct. 31, 1940, the son of the late T. Bernard and Marie Carroll Houghton. He was a graduate of Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Pa., and Pennsylvania State University. In 1960 he married Elizabeth Fowler of Peapack, N.J., they moved to Buckingham Farm in Chestertown, and began a thoroughbred breeding operation. Mr. Houghton and his wife owned, bred, and or raced approximately 25 Stakes winners. They were named Maryland Outstanding Owner in 1997, they also bred two Maryland State Champions. In 2004 they bred and raced the Maryland Champion three year old Filly He Loves ME. Mr. Houghton was an avid Fox Hunter whether in the saddle or by SUV. He was a member of the Jockey Club, Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, Maryland Horse Breeders Association, and the Grayson Foundation. He was also a past board member of the Kent County Humane Society, Kent School, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mr. Houghton will be remembered for his love of the outdoors and animals. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kim Houghton Johnson of N.J. and Genevieve Pierce of Mo.; four granddaughters, Katie and Elizabeth Johnson and Kailey and Andie Pierce; a brother, Ronald B . Houghton of Pa. and a sister, Doris Green of Pa. Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kent County Humane Society P.O.
