Mr. Dixon was born July 28, 1926, near Massey, Md., son of the late Rev. John Cooper and Myrtle Estella (King) Dixon.

He worked for 38 years with Playtex in Dover, from where he retired in July 1988. In January 1989, he went to work for Queen Anne's County as a landfill operator at the Glanding landfill, where he was employed for the past 17 years.

He loved the Baltimore Orioles and enjoyed cleaning scrap metal, going to all the local auctions, including Dixon's, Dill's and Wilson's, and seeing all the local community people at the landfill each week.

Mr. Dixon was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union, Henderson, Md., and a lifetime member of the Marydel Volunteer Fire Co.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Ruth Elizabeth Dixon, on Dec. 26, 2000; an infant grandson, Richard Jackson Jr.; a granddaughter, Dianna M. Dixon; four brothers, John Dixon, Thomas Dixon, Lawrence Dixon and Cooper Dixon; and four sisters, Florence Dixon, Marie Dixon, Angie Dixon and Myrtle Dixon.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St. Millington, Md.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The Rev. Raymond Dixon will officiate.
