Dorsey Elton "Pedro," "Speedy" Riley, 84
CROCHERON, Md. - Dorsey Elton "Pedro," "Speedy" Riley of Crocheron, Dorchester County, Md., died Wednesday, May 16, 2007, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. He was 84.
Born on Feb. 15, 1923, in Crocheron, Dorchester County, Md., he was the son of the late Dorsey Edward Riley and Bertha Bennett Riley.
On April 27, 1952 he married the former Dorothy Paul Marsh. She died on Jan. 8, 1979.
Mr. Riley was a longtime waterman who loved to crab and fish. In his younger days, he enjoyed duck hunting as well.
He loved to help others and was often seen tinkering with engines or helping someone with their boat.
Many Sundays he could be found with one of his many friends, fishing and enjoying their friendships.
In his later years, he enjoyed companionship with his poodle, Clyde who was always seen at his side.
He took great pleasure in reading books and spending time on the dock reminiscing with friends.
He also spent many pleasurable hours aboard his workboat, Kim, which he and his friend Paul Jones had built together.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Riley was preceded in death his son, Edward Michael (Mickey) Riley; and sister, Thelma Riley.
He is survived by a daughter, Kimberly and son-in-law, William Green of Felton, with whom he had made his home for the past five years; a son, Shawn Riley Sr. and daughter-in-law, Maribell Riley of Hoopersville, Md.; two grandsons, Shawn Riley Jr. of Hoopersville, Md. and Jordan Riley of Felton; sisters-in-law, Joanne Todd, Barbara Marsh, and Anna Mae Marsh, all of Cambridge, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with The Rev. Joseph Kelly officiating. Burial will follow on Monday at 2 p.m. at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge, Md.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Holotick, Robert Holotick, William Windsor Sr., Charles Woodland, Phillip Jones and Richard Ruark.
Expressions of sympathy may be made by making memorial offerings in Mr. Riley"s memory to the Delaware Kidney Fund, 2 Essex Court, Newark, DE 19711.
