Dorothy S. Armstrong, 85

DOVER - Dorothy S. Armstrong, of Dover, died Saturday Dec. 6, 2008, in Kent General Hospital. She was 85. Mrs. Armstrong was born Sept. 15, 1923, in Oyster Bay Town, Long Island, N.Y., to the late Edward Albert Sielaff Jr. and Margaret Rau Sielaff. As an undergraduate at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Mrs. Armstrong was a volunteer aircraft spotter monitoring air traffic as a part of the East Coast Security effort of World War II. After graduation, she became a social worker, and also volunteered with the America Red Cross. Graduate studies were pursued at C.W. Post College of Long Island University. Her career was spent in the fields of social work and human resources in New York. During her life in Dover, she was a volunteer and past President of the Junior Board of Bayhealth Medical Center Kent General Hospital, and subsequently volunteered in the Kent General Hospital Emergency Room. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Armstrong in 2001; two sisters, Marion B. Sielaff and Edna S. Moore. Mrs. Armstrong is survived by a sister, Margaret Swift of Long Island, N.Y.; two nieces, Aileen M. Moore and Nancy Tripoli both of Denver, Colo.; two nephews, John V. Moore III of Connecticut and Russell L. Swift of Massachusetts, and their respective families. She also leaves behind her very dear friends Lawrence M. and Margaret Ann Talley. Services are private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the New Bolton Center School of Veterinary Medicine University of Pennsylvania, 382 W Street Rd, Kennett Square, PA 19348.
