Dorothy P. Starkey, 86

WILMINGTON - Dorothy P. Starkey of Wilmington, formerly of Millington and Chestertown, Md., died peacefully Tuesday, May 22, 2007, in Heartland Hospice House, Wilmington, with her youngest daughter and caregiver, Cindy Bailey, at her bedside. She was 86.

Mrs. Starkey was born in Linwood, Pa., the daughter of the late Charles and Wavia (Robinson) Thorpe.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Starkey enjoyed country music, dancing, shopping and playing cards.

She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Millington.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Starkey was predeceased by a son, George Alexander; a grandson, David Alexander Jr.; and two sisters, Jean Deisem and Joann Starkey.

Mrs. Starkey is survived by two sons, David Alexander and his wife Donna of Georgetown, and Joe Alexander and his wife Nancy of Golts, Md.; two daughters, Dottie Pratt and her husband Jack of Millington, and Cindy Bailey of Middletown; one stepson, William Starkey and his wife Marlene of Chestertown; one brother, Charles Thorpe of Oxford, Pa.; four sisters, Catherine Alexander of Millington, Charlotte Conti of Audubon, Pa., Janice Bramble of Millington, and Nancy Teat of Millington; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Very special memories include her cherished grandson, Chad Bailey, and special granddaughter, Courtney Gardner.

Funeral services will be Friday, at 11 a.m., in the Fellows Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St., Millington, where friends and family may call after 10 a.m.

Interment will be in the Asbury Cemetery, Millington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720; or the Asbury United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 187, Millington, MD 21651.
