Dorothy Faye (Hendrix) Simmons, 58
GEORGETOWN - Dorothy Faye (Hendrix) Simmons of Georgetown, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, in the home of her loving and devoted daughter, Demetra "Gwen" Cross. She was 58.
Ms. Simmons was born March 7, 1948, in Nettleton, Miss., daughter of late Baxter L. and Frankie L. Simmons.
She was educated in the Nettleton School District.
Ms. Simmons was a seamstress employed by various manufacturers and was also employed by Kmart and Wal-Mart both in Tupelo, Miss., and Delaware. She also held the position of cashier at K-mart and Wal-Mart. She was last employed at Client Logic in Milford until she became ill.
She loved people, especially working with the youth. She dedicated her life to public service and worked with local 4-H club and the Rainbow P.U.S.H. Coalition.
Ms. Simmons was a devout Christian. She loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind and strength. She was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church, Dover where she served as missionary. She enjoyed fellowshipping with other churches and shared her faith with everyone she met.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James L. Simmons.
She is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Demetra "Gwen" and Walker Cross Sr. of Dover; two grandsons, Walker Cross Jr. and Saron Cross, both of Dover; a granddaughter, Armetra Cross of Dover; a sister, Tempie Gunn of Tupelo; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Billy and Essie Simmons of Tupelo and Randall and Wanda Simmons of Nettleton; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Crossroad Christian Church, 4867 N. Dupont Highway, Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier.
