Dorothy D. Lynch, 75
MILTON - Dorothy D. Lynch passed away on Nov. 16, 2008, in Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Virginia Beach, Va., after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was 75 years old. Dot, as she was known, was one of the nation's first computer operators, using punch cards to program IBM computers for DuPont Chemicals. She married Royal A. Lynch in April 1956. Dot and Royal spent most of their years in Milton, where they raised three children. Dot was active with the local Little League and volunteered at the elementary school when her children were young. Dot and Royal started a business, Broadkill Sports Cards, and they enjoyed traveling together to conventions in neighboring states. After the death of her husband in 1993, Dot traveled the world, visiting the Egyptian Pyramids, going on an African safari, and touring London, Scotland, and Ireland. Dot will be remembered as a kind and generous soul who never met a stranger and always had time for a friend. She believed the best of everyone and of the world itself, and that optimism may be her greatest legacy. Dorothy is survived by her children, Elaine L. Angelini and her husband David of Virginia Beach, Va., Eric R. Lynch of Ocean City, Md., and Jessalyn A. Lynch of Fredericksburg, Va.; two grandchildren, Nicholas Angelini and Catherine Angelini; her brother, George R. Davidson and his wife Bea; nieces, Colleen and Cheryl; brother-in-law, Thomas Donovan; sister-in-law, Nancy Donovan; and a large extended family of many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Royal A. Lynch; and parents, Hammon M. and Esther G. Davidson. A memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.
