Dorothy C. Shanahan

Dorothy C. Shanahan, 94

DENTON, Md. - Dorothy C. Shanahan, of Denton, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, in Ruxton Health of Denton. She was 94.

She was born June 2, 1913, in Philadelphia, to the late William and Anna (Coyle) Shanahan.

Miss Shanahan was raised in Atlantic City, N.J.

After graduating from high school, she left for New York to begin a career in the theater.

For 12 years, from 1931-43, Miss Shanahan traveled all over the country in musical productions.

When Pearl Harbor was attacked, she joined the Naval Reserve. With the WAVES she became a surgical scrub nurse, serving the continental United States and Pearl Harbor in the Hospital Corps until the end of World War II.

Miss Shanahan was affiliated with hotel management, working 12 years from 1945-57, at a guest house in Atlantic City and supper clubs.

In Florida, she worked in hotel management. She retired after 16 years, doing telemarketing for the Miami Herald newspaper in Florida.

After retirement, Greensboro was her home for more than 30 years between her many travels. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, at Greensboro Cemetery.
