Dorothy C. "Dot" "Aunt Dot" Griffin, 86
DOVER - Dorothy C. "Dot" "Aunt Dot" Griffin of Dover departed this life Wednesday, July 18, 2007, in her home after a brief illness. She was 86.
Mrs. Griffin was born July 17, 1921, in Friendship, daughter of the late Ernest and Eliza Jane Craig.
She worked in various restaurants and manufacturing plants in the area before becoming the owner/operator of a day care center for 23 years.
Mrs. Griffin was the first lady of the Mission Church of the Nazarene for 10 years. The Mission Church of the Nazarene was subsequently combined with the Dover Calvary Church of the Nazarene, where she was currently a member.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt.
Mrs. Griffin was also a mother figure to many children throughout the years in and around the neighborhood and community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. William Griffin Sr.; one son, Ernest Griffin Sr.; two brothers, Clarence Craig and Elwood Craig; one sister, Mary Garner; and two grandchildren, Brenda S. Griffin and Ernest Griffin Jr.
Mrs. Griffin is survived by eight children, Brenda Griffin of Dover, Theresa Wigfall of Jonesboro, Ga., Lenora Ngutter of Shippensburg, Pa., and her husband Larry Ngutter of Nairobi, Kenya, Wayne Griffin and his wife Paula of Hingham, Mass., Gerald Griffin and his wife Cindy of Spokane, Wash., Barbara Hickson of Dover, William Griffin Jr. and his wife Angela of Miami, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Marcella Willingham of Dover; one adopted daughter and son, Jean and Delmont Miller of Dover; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one goddaughter; and a host a special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She will be sorely missed and was loved by many.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church. Viewing will be one hour prior service. Interment will be in Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Garden of Honor, Dover.
