Doris Haynie Newton, 92

GEORGETOWN - Doris Haynie Newton, of Georgetown, formerly of King George County, Va., died peacefully at her home on Monday, May 18, 2009. She would have celebrated her 93rd birthday on May 29th. She was the only child of Augustus G. Haynie and Estelle Cookman Haynie. A native of Virginia, Mrs. Newton was born in Walnut Point, Va., and was reared in Colonial Beach, Va. Upon graduating high school in a class of 4, she completed a business degree at Strayer Business School in Washington D.C. She married her beloved husband, Ralph V. Newton, who died in 1997 after 55 years of marriage. She was predeceased by three half brothers, Bailey Haynie, Bud Haynie, and Otis Haynie. She is survived by her daughter, Judy N. Mitchell and husband Eldon and granddaughter Leslie M. Robinson, all of Georgetown. Also, four great-granddogs, Sassy Sue, Trixley, Duke and Charlie who dearly loved spending time with her, two sisters-in-law, Lucy Haynie of Reedville, Va., and Lucille Mc Guire of Hopewell, Va., and several nieces and nephews. In addition to enjoying hobbies of knitting, eating out and playing the piano, she and Ralph enjoyed their times on Windy Hill Farm where they raised Aberdeen Angus cattle. She was a member of the Leedstown Resolution Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Most importantly, she loved her home church Potomac Baptist, where she had played the piano and organ for over 40 yrs. She will be remembered as a devoted Christian wife, mother and grandmother who never found a need to complain. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 21, in the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E Market St., Georgetown. Funeral Services will be noon Friday, May 22, in the Chapel of Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Jefferson Davis Highway, Fredericksburg, Va., where friends may call after 11 a.m. Interment will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg. Contributions to be made to Crossroads Community Church, 20684 State Forest Rd. Georgetown, DE 19947.
