Doris King Carter

DOVER - Doris King Carter, died peacefully in the home she so loved, on July 1, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. Doris was born on May 17, 1923 in Magnolia, Del., daughter of the late Bradley and Blanch (Hammond) King. She enjoyed life as a homemaker and her hobbies included gardening and decorating. Doris was a member of the Wyoming-Camden Round Table Club for 47 years, Sprig and Twig Club, and a lifelong member of the Whatcoat United Methodist Church. She served on various committees and boards through civic organizations and the church. Besides her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Harold M. Carter in 1999; half brother, John Hammond; brother, William 'Billy' King; a sister, Marie Ciliberti; and son-in-law, Leland Matthew O'Brien. She is survived by her loving daughter, Carolee Janie O'Brien, of Dover; granddaughter, Wendy C. Killen and her husband Lloyd V. Killen III (L.V.), of Camden; special great-grandsons, Chad Carter Killen, and Lee Victor Killen; two brothers, Carl P. King and his wife Carol, of Lewes and Florida, Bradley 'Mickey' King and his wife Margie, of Hobe Sound, Fla; sister-in-law, Irene King of Dover; and many nieces and nephews that were special to her. Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012, at the Whatcoat United Methodist Church, 16 N. Main Street, Camden, where family will greet friends one hour earlier. Burial will follow in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Whatcoat United Methodist Church, 16 N. Main St., Camden, DE 19934.
