DOVER - Doris Flora Patterson of Dover died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, in her home. She was 87.
Mrs. Patterson was born Nov. 27, 1918, in Worcester, Mass., daughter and last of seven children of the late John W. and Flora (Reaves) Randall. She lived in New York, Philadelphia and Dover.
She attended the public schools in Worcester and continued her studies at the Manhattan School of Music and the Julliard School of Music in New York.
Mrs. Patterson was an officer at the Westfield Reformatory for Girls in New York and worked on the staff of the West Side YMCA Camp in New York. She also worked in Philadelphia for the U.S. government, where she retired.
She was a foster parent.
She taught piano in her home to over 300 adults and children from 1948 to 2004. As a young woman she was also the pianist of the John Street Baptist Church in Worcester.
Mrs. Patterson was a member, pianist and organist of the Whatcoat Methodist Church, Dover, and served several other churches in their music ministry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six siblings, Marion Venable, Geraldine Simmons, Roland Randall, John Randall, Morris Randall and Alic Randall.
She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Patterson Sr.; three children, Ellen Jean Robertson of Surprise, Ariz., Robert L Patterson of Landover, Md., and Roland N. Patterson of Dover; 12 grandchildren, Herbert L. Robertson III, Christopher A. Robertson, Kevin N. Robertson, Stephanie Patterson, Fawn Marsh, Steve Marsh, Roland Patterson, Doris Patterson, Tisha Patterson, Tyesha Patterson, Mattie Patterson and Cory Patterson; a sister-in law, Ruth Randall of Dover; a son-in law, Herbert L. Robertson Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Willett Patterson; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division St., Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
