KENTON - Donald Shahan Sr., of Kenton, died on Jan. 31, 2011, in his home surrounded by his family. He was 69. Mr. Shahan worked for Reichold Chemical in Cheswold for 38 years. After retirement he enjoyed working for his sister and their family business, F. Kohout & Son. Donald Shahan was born in Smyrna, the son of the late Dawson Sr., and Myrtle Elizabeth Shahan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dawson (Doc) Shahan; and a sister, Florence Kohout. Mr. Shahan's life was all about his family, his loving wife, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed vacationing with his family, camping, fishing, and crabbing with his children. He enjoyed working at the family butcher shops during deer season and hanging out with "The Boys." He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Shahan, they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on Feb. 26, 2010; five children who he dearly loved, Donald Shahan Jr. of Harrington, Donna Brooks of Dover, Dennis Shahan of Kenton, Darlene Leslie of Hartly, and Dawna Nickerson of Hartly. Mr. Shahan is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Norwood Shahan of Farmington, and Gene Shahan of Kenton; three sisters, Beulah Boyles of Kenton, Shirley Jarman of Dover, and Joan Woodall of Farmington; and his two pet companions, Peyton and Parker. Services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, in the Faries Funeral Chapel located on 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park in Dover.
