Donald J. Elliott

MASSEY, Md. - Donald J. Elliott, 91, of Massey, died June 14, 2011, in Chester River Manor, Chestertown, Md. Mr. Elliott was born on Oct. 12, 1919, in New York, son of the late Roy and Mabel LeBelle Elliott. He was raised in New York and was a graduate of Hamilton College. In 1956 he began his career in Baltimore County, Md., teaching math at Brooklyn Park High School and driver's education at Cardinal Gibbons. He earned his Master's degree from Towson University. Mr. Elliott was a life member of Galena Vol. Fire Co., active with the Fire Police and the ambulance with EMT certification. He enjoyed goose hunting, fishing and caring for his pets, especially Tommy, his miniature horse. In 1990 he won a sports car on Wheel of Fortune. Don was preceded in death by his wife of 66 ½ years, Violet Turk Elliott in 2009; a brother, Fay Elliott; and a grandson, David Lee Jenkins. He is survived by his daughter, Faye Carpenter of Monkton, Md.; two grandchildren, Tina Marie Powell and Jeanne Ann Hanish; and two great-grandchildren, David and Sarah. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, W. Cross St., Galena, where funeral service will be held on Monday, June 19, at 11 a.m. Burial will be held privately in Lakeview Cemetery, Sykesville, Md.
