SMYRNA - Donald H. Morris of Smyrna died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 70.
Mr. Morris was born Nov. 28, 1936, in Dover, son of the late Carroll E. and Almeda V. Morris.
He was self-employed for many years as a carpenter and farmer, and later was employed by the Smyrna School District.
Mr. Morris was a former coach for the Smyrna-Clayton Little League, and enjoyed sports, woodworking and playing cards, as well as bluegrass, gospel and country and western music. He sang in several area groups and also enjoyed playing guitar. He greatly enjoyed going to his grandchildren"s sporting and school events.
He will be remembered as one who loved being with family and friends, and who was always ready to help others.
Mr. Morris was a member of the Smyrna Wesleyan Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mayretta Bailey; a son-in-law, James A. Passwaters Sr.; three sisters-in-law, Retha Morris, B.B. Ennis, and Doris Jones; and a brother-in-law, Earle Cole.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia Ennis Morris; three children, Cheryl A. Passwaters of Milford; David Morris and his wife, Jeanne of Smyrna; and Greg Morris and his wife, Shirley of Dover; six grandchildren, Cara R. Morris and Eric D. Morris, both of Smyrna; Sarah Smith, Patrick Smith, Jared G. Morris, and Hannah M. Morris, all of Dover; a sister, Pearl E. Cole of Clayton; and a brother, Carroll Owen Morris of Carrollton, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Smyrna Wesleyan Church, 433 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.
Burial will be in Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Smyrna Wesleyan Church Building Fund, 433 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, DE 19977.
