Donald Carl Spiering Sr., 88

GREENSBORO, Md. - Donald Carl Spiering Sr., of Greensboro, died Monday, May 25, 2009, at his home. He was 88. He was born May 23, 1921, in Greensboro, to the late Elizabeth Schaller and Anton Spiering, Sr. Mr. Spiering was a farmer and a bus driver for many years. He was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the School Bus Contractors Association and the Caroline County Farm Bureau. Donald will live forever in the many things he touched; the flowers, trees, birds, and ponds he nurtured, but most of all in the hearts of the family he loved and nurtured. He was a Pop-Pop to all of his extended family and made sure that everyone was taken care of. He was a considerate and loving person who left behind a legacy of memories such as homemade ice cream on your birthday, summer crab feasts and wonderful turkey dinners. He will be greatly missed but will live in our hearts forever. He was grateful to be able to pass away in the house he loved, in the presence of loved ones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Keith Spiering; brother, David Spiering; and sister, Marge Brown. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Spiering; four sons, Donald C. Spiering, Jr. of Harrington, Del., Philip Spiering of Greensboro, Douglas Spiering of Shelby, N.C., and Jonathon Spiering of Kings Mountain, N.C.; two daughters, Barbara Parsons of Dover, Del., and Bonnie Clough of Bectlesville, Pa.; three brothers, Gene Spiering of Denton, Glen "Mike" Spiering and Anton Spiering, both of Greensboro; two sisters, Betty Mintz of Harrington, and Cleo Johnson of Bear, Del.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 29, in Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, where visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro. Memorials may be sent to Caroline Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629; or St. Paul's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 57, Greensboro, MD 21639. Condolences may be sent via www.fleegleandhelfenbein.com.
