DOVER - Don Theodore Fernandes was the second son born to Vivian Carter and Frank Fernandes, Sr. on May 31, 1945 in Philadelphia, Pa. He passed away on Sept. 11, 2015 in Dover, Del. Don graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in Philadelphia in 1964. In 1965, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in the Far East during the Vietnam War and honorably discharged in 1967. In high school, Don became a member of a Philadelphia social club, Lambda Sigma Phi, maintaining membership for more than 50 years. Don attended several colleges and universities in the Philadelphia area. He was interested in always learning new things and was a lifelong student. Don held many jobs as a chef most notably at the Springfield Diner in Springfield, Pa. After joining the Air Force Reserves in Philadelphia in the late seventies, he relocated to Dover, Del. Most of his working years were spent as a sheet metal mechanic at Dover Air Force Base until he retired in 2008. Don received a number of awards and accolades for his service at Dover. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother, Frank, Jr. Memorial services will be held Monday, Nov. 2, 2015 at Delaware Veteran's Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Del. at 2:00 p.m. Letters of condolences can be sent to
