Dennis was born on December 13, 1923 in Chesapeake, West Virginia. He was one of five children of parents, Pearl and Arthur Lavender. Dennis loved his family and the Lord. Throughout his life he shared the riches of God's many blessings with all who were fortunate to know him. Dennis carried the love of God in his heart and unselfishly shared it with everyone. His life's work can be seen in the many homes throughout New Castle and Kent Counties. Dennis was also a devoted member of Delaney New Life Worship Center in Clayton. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary "Ethel" Lavender of 51 years; his parents; his brothers, Darryl and Dwayne; and his step-son, Raymond Dwight Lowe.
