Delores C. Pruitt, 81

DOVER - Delores C. Pruitt, of Dover, succumbed to her battle with cancer at Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital, Newark, under Delaware Hospice care. She was 81.

She was born March 21, 1927, in Norfolk, Va., daughter of the late Johnson and Belle Bennett. She was the youngest of 13 children, all deceased.

Delores was a graduate of the original Girls High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., class of 1945.

She was one of the head clerks for New York City Department of Welfare Fraud.

Delores loved to discuss politics, world events and her union's news.

She retired after becoming ill.

She was a former member of First AME Zion Church, Brooklyn.

Delores was a present member of Truth of Life Church, Dover.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda J. Pruitt.

Delores is survived by a son, Gordon M. Pruitt; a daughter, Deborah T. Creary; one grandson, Nathaniel C. Russ; one granddaughter, Belvey M. Russ; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and church family.

Her funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call two hours prior.

Burial will be in Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn, on Monday.
