MAGNOLIA - Deborah L. Barnett, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009, after a lengthy illness in Bayhealth Medical Center, Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 45. She was born in Wilmington, a daughter of George Mielnik of Elkton, Md., and the late Patricia May Thomas, and stepfather, Edwin A. Thomas. Mrs. Barnett was a homemaker. She loved riding on the back of her husband's Harley Davidson motorcycle and especially liked watching cooking shows on TV. She was known for her green thumb, having many plants in her home. Mrs. Barnett loved to collect candles and unicorns. She loved being a grandmother and her favorite thing was to spoil her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed. Mrs. Barnett was described as truly a "one of a kind" and was very opinionated. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dawn McCroy. She is survived by her husband, Thomas G Barnett Jr., of 25 years; son, Thomas G. Barnett III of Smyrna; daughter, Courtney L. Barnett of Magnolia; brother, Richard Thomas of Dover; sisters, Adrianne Gammon of Dover, and Kelly Thomas of Parkersburg, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Thomas G. Barnett IV, Damien Barnett, Jade Barnett, and Tristan Griffiths; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Melvin Funeral Home. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private. Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.
