SUDLERSVILLE, Md. - David Lee Smith of Sudlersville died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, in Corsica Hills Nursing Center, Centreville. He was 83.

Mr. Smith was born Sept. 21, 1923, in Bridgetown, son of the late Joseph and Mae Smith.

He grew up in Caroline County and later enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II in Germany and France.

Following his release from active duty he returned to Caroline County and worked for various companies in construction and painting. He later established his own home improvement company where he worked for more than 30 years, serving Kent, Queen Anne, Caroline and Talbot counties.

Mr. Smith was a musician in a country music band, the Country Troubadours. He had a jam session every Thursday at The Hilltop. He also enjoyed wildlife, birds, landscaping and yard work.

He is survived by his girlfriend of seven years, Cindy Collins of Dover; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David Lee and Sherry Smith of Church Hill and Danny Lynn Smith of Louisiana; four grandchildren, Amanda Smith, Danny Joe Smith, Cathy Meredith and Beth Smith; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Centreville, where friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery.
