GREENWOOD - David John Gates, a resident of Greenwood since 2012, formerly of Edgewater, Md., passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at home. David was born in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Jesse Bernard Gates and Mary (Baker) Gates. He was a builder for 35 years, retiring in 2004. His hobbies included building houses, remodeling, painting, and raising all kinds of animals. In his early years, he enjoyed boating. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Priscilla Hinkley. He is survived by his wife, Deborah (Valentine) Gates; children, Vicki Lynn Meyer of Virginia and Tina Stolica of Florida; brother, Daniel Gates, Millsboro; three sisters, Jessie Taylor of Pa., Bernadette Gagne of N.C. and Andrea Snoots of Pa.; three grandchildren, Breanna Rein, Kendal Meyer and Brooke Stolica and one great-grandchild, Camden Rein. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Arrangements handled by Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford, DE.
