Daniel Thornton Jr., 69 VIOLA - Daniel Thornton Jr., age 69, of Viola, passed away Friday, July 16, 2010, in his home. Daniel was born in Dayton, Ohio, son of the late Daniel, Sr., and Helen (Strasser) Thornton. He was an Aerospace Ground Power Equipment Technician with the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, retiring in 1979. Daniel retired with the rank of Tech Sergeant and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Daniel was a member of the Camden Moose Lodge #203 and American Legion in Dover. He enjoyed riding motor cycles, traveling, camping and photographing his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lillian (Rogers) Thornton; three children, Scott Allen Thornton and wife Kathy, of Felton, Helen Ann Johnson and husband Ken, of Dover, Pa., and Maria Anne Woodward and husband Scott, of Harrington; ten grandchildren, Danielle Closs and husband Jeremy, Matthew Thornton and wife Nickie, John Paul Thornton and wife Tamara, Gabriel Thornton, Joshua Johnson, Patty Woodward, Scott Woodward, Jr., and wife Christine, Daniel Woodward, Sr., and wife Jen, Brandon and Austin Woodward; and three great-grandchildren, Daniel Jr., Gabriel and Zara Woodward. A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 21, 2010, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
