Dallas A. Lawter

DOVER - Dallas A. Lawter, of Dover, founder and President of Lawter Wealth Management, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Originally, from Asheville, N.C., he moved to Delaware as a young child. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Margaret Lawter. Dallas had four main passions which included his family, sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, his relationship with God and his business. Dallas entered the financial planning field in 1970. He received numerous awards and recognitions and distinguished himself within the top 1% of all investment advisors and financial planners. His accomplishments, to numerous to mention, awarded him and his wife, Patricia, the opportunity to have dinner with such individuals as Walter Cronkite and both George W., and George H.W. Bush and their wives. He served his country proudly with the US Army from 1963 - 1966. He was commander of the Blue Hen Power Squadron. He leaves behind his best friend and wife of 41 years, Patricia A. Marvel-Lawter; two daughters, Sandra L. O'Toole and husband Rusty and Christine Y. Ksenich and husband Pete; four grandchildren, Ashley, Brittney, Pearson and Megan, all of Magnolia. He is also survived by an uncle, Oren Lawter and wife Shirley, of Fort Myers, Fla.; and a host of extended family and close friends. A funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, with visitation Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or American Cancer Society, PO Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803.
